Paddling distance from the launch site (Howard Lake Road) to pick up location (County Road 50) is 5.3 miles.

Difficulty:

The creek flows slowly but navigating it with a paddle can be quite challenging for beginners. Depending on the water levels, presence of submerged logs and rocks, and the need to navigate around or under trees and vegetation, it can be categorized as a moderately to difficult route. You will encounter multiple beaver dams, which will require short portages.

Average Paddle Time:

This paddle can take as long as 3-5 hours to complete.

What’s the route?

You will paddle a section of the creek between Akeley and Walker, Minnesota. The creek runs through an uninhabited portion of the Chippewa National Forest parallel to the Heartland Trail (Shingobee Connection Trail) and the North County Trail.
